A puppy or a dog makes for one of the most adorable pets at home. However you have to take care of its health and also see to it that it does not misbehave such as chewing on things such as shoe laces, jumping on the bed, potty anywhere in the house, etc.

You can start by giving your dog a dog toy which is specially meant for chewing. Hence whenever the dog chews on something you simply distract its attention by giving him a dog toy. In this exercise you need to be patient with your dog.

 The other way to prevent your dog form chewing on household things is to say a firm no with a loud voice. Though it may not listen to you in the beginning it will slowly get used to the habit of your shouting once it starts to chew on something.

Avoid giving your dog something of the house to chew on. These things could be anything from discarded shoes to your bathroom towel. The dog will think that you have given it the freedom to chew on your household items.

 In case of dog toys, you can simply say a commanding No to your dog when it chews on household items and then immediately give it the dog toy. Repeat this behavior often and surely your dog will not chew on your important items.

You can even take him to his room which is empty and put dog toys on the floor. He will chew on these dog toys because there is nothing else to chew in the room. However remember that you get non toxic dog toys and toys that don’t pose a risk of getting stuck in the throat.
